Long Beach Poly upset!

In what is easily the stunner of the year, Long Beach Poly lost in the Southern California 1AA quarterfinals tonight to Santa Monica, 57-56.

The Jackrabbits won the state title three consecutive years from 2007-2009, and were runners-up last year. They have been ranked second in the nation for the entire season this year.

If they had won, Poly would have faced Mater Dei in the semifinals Saturday night – a matchup many had already planned for and anticipated.

For seniors Ariya Crook-Williams – a McDonald’s All-American who is headed to USC – and Sheila Boykin, who will play at UCLA, it’s an unexpected and abrupt ending to their high school careers.
