Sue Donohoe resigns, NCAA administrator in charge of DI women’s basketball championships

Longtime NCAA administrator Sue Donohoe is resigning her position at the national office, effective at the end of November.

Donohoe is leaving her post as vice president, championships and alliances, women’s basketball, for family and personal reasons. She has spent nearly 12 years overseeing the growth of women’s basketball and the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

“From the time I was a graduate assistant coach when the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech won the first-ever NCAA Women’s Final Four in 1982 until this day, I have tried to give the best of who I am to this game, for which I have the utmost respect,” Donohoe said. “I have experienced this championship as a coach and administrator and hope I have contributed to its growth in my role at the NCAA.”

Prior to taking over as vice president for women’s basketball, Donohoe served as a director for both the Division I men’s and women’s basketball championships.

Donohoe joined the NCAA national office in 1999 after serving as associate commissioner at the Southland Conference. The Pineville, La., native worked as a high school and college coach before moving into athletics administration.

Greg Shaheen, interim executive vice president for championships and alliances, praised Donohoe for her many contributions to women’s basketball and intercollegiate athletics.

“Throughout her tenure at the NCAA, Sue has led important work in women’s basketball in a manner that will enhance the game significantly for years to come,” Shaheen said. “The opportunities to grow the game of women’s basketball and all of women’s athletics will increase as a result of momentum created from Sue’s vision.”
