Missing the WNBA? Let Alex Chambers take you on his ride through the league for the holidays

13 Teams: One Man's Journey with the WNBA

Right about now I am guessing that you must be missing the WNBA as much as I am. Do not get me wrong, I love the college game, but it is just, well, different than the pros. There is a different kind of intensity when you get the best in the world together in one place and let them go at it. Being on the “inside” somewhat, I have gotten to see that so much more goes into both the creation of a pro team and its maintenance, and also bringing to you an entertaining game and event for your viewing pleasure.

It is with that in mind and heart, I suggest a way to satisfy your “W appetite,” with the book 13 Teams: One Man’s Journey with the WNBA by Alex Chambers. In memory of his friend who passed on from breast cancer, Alex sought to spend one summer traveling to every city in the WNBA and attend one game per location, and also the WNBA All-Star game in Connecticut. No small undertaking to say the least.

Maybe it is because I think the athletes of the WNBA are incredible role models, and I have a 16-year old daughter who is a fan. Maybe it is because like Alex, I am a male, who loves the WNBA Maybe it is because I find it interesting to read Alex’s game location stories. I say game location stories because they are not just game reports, and they are not just personal anecdotes. What Alex has managed to do in writing this book is inform the readers of not only the game he witnessed, but his feelings toward the people and action involved, and give you a glimpse behind the scene at those that help make the league and its games the fun experiences they are.

Alex has been a guest on Dishin & Swishin before, and shares his thoughts on the league these days on his own blog, “Thoughts from @WNBAGuy.”. He is still a WNBA super fan, although he does not make it across the country like he used to.

His book can be found at Amazon.com as both a paperback and as a Kindle formatted e-book. It’s a great read, one that I’m sure you will find yourself smiling and laughing at from beginning to end.

It made me smile, it made me happy. Isn’t that what a holiday present is supposed to do?
