Tyler Summitt accepts assistant coach job at Marquette

As one Summitt left the coaching ranks, another one entered. Tyler Summitt, son of legendary Tennessee coach Pat Summitt, announced that he took a job as an assistant for the Marquette women’s basketball team on the same day his mother announced her retirement.

“Mom announced she’s stepping down today, and I announced I’m stepping in,” he said according to the website GoVolsXtra.com. “I interviewed on Sunday and got offered, and I officially accepted the job today.”

The younger Summitt has said for years that his career aspirations are to follow in the footsteps of his mother. The walk-on for the University of Tennessee’s men’s basketball team for two seasons says he has been taking notes on coaching since he was in high school. He was also a practice player for his mother’s team his freshman year.
