No. 8 Vanderbilt holds off No. 9 St. Joseph’s to tip off Bridgeport regional

STORRS, Conn. – Vanderbilt used their size and strength to hold off a feisty St. Joseph’s team, 60-54 in the first game of the Storrs sub-regional of the NCAA tournament.

Led by Tiffany Clarke’s twelve rebounds, the Commodores amassed a 47-32 advantage, including 18 offensive rebounds.

Clarke led everyone with 16 points, and guard Jasmine Lister added 14 for the Commodores, now 21-11.

St. Joseph’s leading scorer Chatilla van Grinsven was in early foul trouble and held scoreless with only one rebound in the first half, before erupting for 14 points and eight rebounds in the second half.

St. Joseph’s falls to 23-9.

Vanderbilt will play the winner of the Connecticut-Idaho game on Monday night at 7 p.m. ET.
