Kansas answers critics with resounding victory over Colorado, 67-52 in Norfolk Regional

BOULDER, Colorado – The Kansas Jayhawks have spent the last week confronted with questions of whether they even deserved their at-large bid into the tournament. Seniors Angel Goodrich and Carolyn Davis were two of five Jayhawks to finish in double figures as they upset fifth-seeded Colorado on their home court, 67-52.

Colorado, in their second season in the Pac-12 after being in the Big 12 along with Kansas, struggled offensively. Arielle Roberson and Chucky Jeffery, their two leading scorers, shot 5-for-29 for the game, as the Buffaloes shot only 25 percent as a team.

Other than the shooting percentage, the statistics for the two teams were almost mirror images; both teams had 38 rebounds, and Kansas took 61 shots to Colorado’s 63. However, Davis hit 6-for-11 shots, Chelsea Gardner hit 5-for-10, CeCe Harper 5-for-8, and Monica Engelman 5-for-11 shots. Only Goodrich (5-for-16) struggled, but she also had eight assists to only three turnovers.

The 19-13 Jayhawks advance to a Monday night showdown with fourth seeded South Carolina, who smothered South Dakota State in the first game in Boulder. It will be interesting to see the attendance with Colorado eliminated.
