South Carolina uses defense to cage Jackrabbits, 74-52 in Norfolk Regional

Dawn Staley’s South Carolina team has held all but four opponents under 60 points this season. Today they used that stellar defense to patiently extend a close game into a 74-52 point victory over South Dakota State in the Norfolk region.

Conference player of the year Ieasia Walker led the way for the Gamecocks, with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Clinging to a four point lead, 23-19, with 8:30 seconds left in the first half, South Carolina went on a 23-7 run to blow open the game and take a 44-26 halftime lead.

Ashley Eide led South Dakota State with 15 points.

South Carolina faces Kansas next.
