For games played Dec. 14 through 20 Stanford’s Lili Thompson was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Oregon’s Maite Cazorla was voted the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

Thompson (Mansfield, Texas), a junior guard, was Stanford’s leading scorer in two wins last week over then-No. 14 Tennessee and Cornell. She led the Cardinal against the Lady Vols, scoring 19 points, tying a career high with seven rebounds and handing out four assists in 31 minutes.  Stanford won, 69-55, beating Tennessee for the fifth-consecutive time in Maples Pavilion. Thompson played just 19 minutes in a 93-38 blowout over Cornell on Saturday, scoring 11 points and again tallying four assists. She is fifth in the league in scoring (18.6 ppg) and 48 points shy of becoming Stanford’s 36th 1,000-point scorer. It is the second time this season Thompson has been voted the Conference’s Player of the Week and the third time in her career. It is also Stanford’s 103 weekly citation all-time.

Cazorla, a guard from Las Palmas, Spain, had a strong weekend running the point for the undefeated Oregon Ducks, who are now 10-0, the team’s best start to the season since going 21-0 in 1978-79. Ranking fourth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.18) and seventh in assists per game (7.1), Cazorla dished out 19 total assists over the last two games while not committing a single turnover. She nearly posted a triple-double in Thursday’s 122-59 win over Portland State with 16 points, a season-high 12 assists and seven steals. She went 7-of-8 from the field against the Vikings. So far through 10 games, Cazorla has started each contest and handed out double-digit assists twice. It is the first freshman of the week honor for Cazorla and Oregon’s 11th all-time.

A player of the week has been selected every week since 1986-87, the first year the Conference sponsored women’s sports. A freshman of the week was first selected in 2012-13. The Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week are voted on by a panel of media that regularly cover Pac-12 women’s basketball.

The Cardinal have one game this week, hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 22. Oregon is off until Dec. 28 when it hosts Seattle at Matthew Knight Arena.
