UConn Still No. 1 in Hoopfeed Poll, Washington and Oregon State Enter Top 10

Connecticut sits at the top of this week’s Hoopfeed poll for the seventh week in a row. The Huskies won their 90th straight game Tuesday with a rout of No. 20 South Florida, 102-37. The mark ties UConn’s NCAA record for consecutive victories. At the half, the Huskies led South Florida 65-19.

“For me it was more about how well the game went than the actual streak,” said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. “We played those first 20 minutes like a team on a mission to accomplish something. Those first 20 minutes were the best 20 minutes of basketball that any of our players have ever been a part of.”

Baylor, Maryland, Mississippi State and South Carolina round out the top five.

Washington and Oregon State entered the top ten at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. Washington defeated Southern California and No. 16 UCLA last week.

Oregon State had a great road trip over the weekend defeating No. 25 California and Stanford. The Beavers’ defeat of the Cardinal was a 72-69 double overtime thriller that gave Oregon State its first-ever win at Maples Pavilion.

“I’m so proud of this group for having the courage it takes to do something that’s never been done,” said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck about the win. “It felt like we had to win this game five times, and that’s a testament to Stanford. We knew this couldn’t be easy.”

Stanford dropped three places in the poll to land at No. 12 in a tie with Virginia Tech. The Hokies remain undefeated at 15-0. Last week they defeated North Carolina and Clemson. This week Virginia Tech faces No. 14 Miami.

UCLA experienced the biggest drop in the poll after losing to both Washington and Washington State. The Bruins fell nine places to No. 16. Kentucky dropped out of the poll.

Other teams that received votes: Syracuse, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Harvard and Temple.
