Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed NCAA DI Top 25 Poll for Feb. 6, 2018: The undefeateds remain at the top; Stanford moves up No. 15

UConn and Mississippi State reign, Stanford advances ten places to No. 15

UConn and Mississippi State are the only two unbeaten teams left in Division I women’s basketball and both teams are undoubtedly the best in the nation. They continue to hold the top spots in this week’s Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed poll. UConn had no trouble taking down South Carolina and Cincinnati last week. Mississippi State also earned a win over South Carolina in front of a sold-out crowd in Starkville Monday night, the first-ever capacity crowd for the program.

“Our fans were spectacular,” head coach Vic Schaefer said about the record-breaking crowd. “What an environment. The Hump was incredible. Most nights in here it’s loud, but boy tonight was special. To be a part of that as a coach I really appreciate that.”

The rest of the top five also remained unchanged with Baylor, Louisville and Notre Dame rounding out the elite group. Baylor earned their 19th straight victory by beating Oklahoma Monday night. Louisville took down Virginia and Syracuse last week. Notre Dame’s last several days included wins over North Carolina and Duke.

After dropping out of the poll a few weeks ago and then creeping back in at the bottom, Stanford leaped 10 places to land at No. 15 after a string of victories over ranked Pac-12 foes. With a four-game win streak under their belt, the Cardinal have defeated three ranked teams in that stretch including Arizona State, Oregon State and last week’s No. 6, Oregon.

With a loss on their home court to Stanford, Oregon fell four places to tie with Maryland at No. 9.

Missouri also fell four spots to land at No. 17. The Tigers had a string of three straight losses before recovering and barely beating Florida 66-64 Monday night.

West Virginia and California dropped out of the top 25. Other teams that received votes include LSU, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Belmont, South Florida and California.

The STI/Hoopfeed Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of media members and other women’s basketball professionals. Total points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
