Video and gallery: Nike reveals 2018 WNBA uniforms

Behind-the-scenes video

In 2015, the WNBA announced that, along with the NBA and G-League, it was dropping Adidas as the official maker of apparel and uniforms for the league. At the time, Adidas still had a couple of years under its agreement with the leagues.

This season, Nike takes over providing gear and uniforms and is introducing two different uniform editions for each team: Icon and Statement.

From Nike: “The Icon Edition uses the team’s primary color to represent the rich heritage and iconic identity that exists within each franchise. The Statement Edition highlights the team’s secondary color and sets the tone for big games or rivalries.”

Along with input from players, Nike came up with uniforms that include the following features.

Fit: Women-specific scapula cuts on the jersey and vents on the shorts as well as an extensive variety of uniform lengths and short rises maximize range of motion and comfort.

Temperature regulation: An advanced, closed-hole mesh fabric with quick-dry back venting (the pattern and placement were determined by employing digital body maps that evaluated female athletes’ primary sweat and cling zones) helps regulate body temperature and provides optimal moisture control during play.

The 2018 season kicks off on May 18 when the Phoenix Mercury hosts the Dallas Wings. [League TV Schedule]
