The Trend Continues: Phoenix Suns Captains Give Out Free Tix For Game 5

PSuns Phoenix Suns captains Amar’e Stoudemire, Grant Hill and Steve Nash follow the lead of Larry Bird, Steve Kerr and Alvin Gentry with a WNBA Finals ticket giveaway.

The Phoenix Mercury must win Game 4 in Indiana on Wednesday to remain in the running for the championship. They trail the Indiana Fever 2-1 in the five-game series. Game 5 is in Phoenix on Friday, Oct. 9.

“We have absolute confidence that the Mercury will win Game 4 and bring it back home to close out the series on Friday night,” said Suns forward Grant Hill. “We will be in Indian Wells preparing for our preseason game, but we want fans to take advantage of these complimentary tickets. To be at US Airways Center and watch the Mercury compete for the WNBA Championship – will be a special experience. I am disappointed I can’t be a part of it, but we will definitely be cheering them on and look forward to congratulating them when we return to Phoenix. ”

The three NBA players are giving away free tickets in the upper level. The 7,000 seats are available on a first come, first served basis starting today at the arena’s ticket office.

Basketball legend and Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird started the trend during the playoffs when Indiana played the Detroit Shock for the Eastern Conference title. Phoenix Suns General Manager Steve Kerr made a similar move for the first game of the Finals. Suns head coach Alvin Gentry purchased the upper level of US Airways Center for Game 2.

Fans may claim up to six tickets per person by mentioning the Suns’ Captains at the ticket office between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until tipoff Friday, or while supplies last.

This the first ever Finals for Indiana while Phoenix makes its third Finals appearance all-time and second showing in three seasons. The 2007 Mercury club defeated the defending champion Shock in five games in the 2007 WNBA Finals.
