Tulsa Shock trades Crystal Kelly to the San Antonio Silver Stars for Shanna Crossley

The Tulsa Shock traded forward Crystal Kelly to the San Antonio Silver Stars for guard Shanna Crossley.

Crossley, a Tennessee graduate, appeared in 19 games last year for the Silver Stars, averaging five points a game.

“We are excited about having Shanna Crossley join the Tulsa Shock,” Tulsa general manager and head coach Nolan Richardson said in a statement. “She is one of the best three-point shooters in the WNBA. In addition, having played for head coach Pat Summit at Tennessee, she knows what it takes to win.”

Kelly appeared in 11 regular season games in Detroit last year, averaging less than three points a game in about eight minutes of playing time off the bench.

“We really appreciate Shanna’s involvement with the Silver Stars over the past several years and wish her nothing but the best in the future,” said San Antonio general manager Dan Hughes.

Originally selected by the Houston Comets in the third round pick (31st overall) of the 2008 WNBA Draft, Kelly spent time playing overseas during the WNBA offseason with C.B. Olesa (Spain) in 2008-09 and with Livorno (Italy) in 2009-10. This offseason, Kelly averaged 10.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 28.1 minutes per game as she helped Livorno reach the league playoffs.

The trade is the Shock’s second in less than a week. Before last week’s draft, it traded the seventh overall pick in 2010 and its second round pick in 2011 to the Connecticut Sun for Chante Black and Amber Holt. The Shock then selected Oklahoma’s Amanda Thompson in the second round (19th overall) and Vivian Frieson in the third round (31st overall) in the 2010 WNBA Draft.

  • Best wish and good luck to Shanna and welcome to Kelly, SASS needs her kind of hardnosed playing but it may be a tough team to break into.

It had to be a tough decision for GM Hughes letting go of Shanna.
