CT Charles, Tina

After sweeping Rookie of Month awards during her first season as a professional player in the WNBA, it is no surprise that the league announced Tina Charles as  the 2010 Rookie of the Year. A national panel of 39 sportswriters and broadcasters unanimously awarded Charles the honor.

The former Connecticut star was the first overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft. She averaged 15.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, team bests.

Charles finished the season leading all rookies in scoring and rebounding and was the league leader in the latter category. She set WNBA records for rebounds (398) and double-doubles (22) in a season.

The league also announced the All-Rookie team. The voting panel consisted of the WNBA’s 12 head coaches, who chose five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Charles and Wright each received 11 votes, while Greene, Griffin and Prince each got 10.
