Connecticut governor M. Jodi Rell helps celebrate UConn milestones, Hartford to be lit up in blue

Connecticut governor M. Jodi Rell, an avid supporter of the No. 1 Connecticut women’s basketball team announced that buildings in downtown Hartford are to be lit up in blue to celebrate UConn’s attempt to set the NCAA Division I record for consecutive wins at 89. UConn tied the streak Sunday in a win over Ohio State.

The Hartford 21 and Aetna buildings will display blue and white lights in honor of the record-setting attempt and Rell is encouraging other businesses in the state to do the same. She is also urging UConn fans to show their support by wearing blue and white on Tuesday.

“The tradition of excellence continues as our UConn women continue to rewrite the record books. What they have accomplished is phenomenal and one more win will clearly set them in a class by themselves,” said Rell in a statement. “I urge all UConn fans to show their pride and support tomorrow by wearing blue and white to the office or in classrooms.”

“Breaking the record in front of the home fans would be wonderful. I wish Coach Auriemma, his staff and the talented young women all the best. They have already made us tremendously proud by representing the school and this state with great class and sportsmanship.”
