ACC Semifinals Recap

#1 Duke 74, #5 Georgia Tech 66
Duke’s freshmen were the story yesterday, but today it was all about the seniors; Krystal Thomas, Jasmine Thomas and Karima Christmas lead the way for the Blue Devils. Christmas was able to use her size and strength to attack the middle of the defense. With Thomas at the point Duke was able to negotiate the Tech press. Point guard Metra Walthour, who made three of her five three-pointers in the first half, keep the Yellow Jackets within striking distance going into the half-time break. Georgia Tech did manage to close the lead to 4 points late in the 2nd half, behind an offensive explosive from Tyaunna Marshall, but it was a little too late as Jasmine Thomas nailed a jumper off an inbounds play to seal the deal for Duke.

#6 North Carolina 83, #2 Miami 57
North Carolina continued their impressive run in the tournament with a decisive win over Miami. As a team, the Tarheels appear to have every aspect of their game working, especially Jessica Breland who had a career high 28 points. The Miami “Scoring Machine” hit a sour note as they shot 30 percent from the field. The Hurricanes were never able to set up full court to pressure the ball, which limited their ability to score off of turnovers. Without a transition game or a presence in the post they were forced to settle for way too many jump shots.
