Thursday recap and weekend outlook: Mystics get OT victory, Brunson tallies her fourth double-double as Lynx topple Storm

The Washington Mystics (1-1) came out on tip on the road in a topsy-turvy game against the Atlanta Dream. The game went into overtime at 85 and the Mystics finished with a 98-90 victory. The Mystics played with a reduced roster as guard Alana Beard and center Ta’Shia Phillips were out with injuries. Beard is recovering from a bruised foot and Phillips had an ankle injury. The Mystics were lead by Crystal Langhorne’s 30 and 13 rebounds. Nicky Anosike, who is in her first season with Washington after arriving from the Minnesota Lynx in a preseason trade, had a career-high 29 points and 13 rebounds. Matee Ajavon added 24 points and Kelly Miller tallied 10. The Dream was led by Erika De Souza who had 20 points and 15 rebounds. Atlanta is 0-2 to start the season.

The Minnesota Lynx (3-1), coming off of two wins at home, arrived in Seattle and earned a huge halftime lead over the reigning WNBA champions. Leading at the break 50-24, the Lynx withstood the Storm’s second half comeback efforts. The Storm (1-1) outscored the Lynx 15-14 in the third quarter and 35-17 in the fourth but it was not enough. Storm star Lauren Jackson was a no-show for most of the game and finished with just nine points but pulled down seven rebounds. The Lynx were led by Rebekkah Brunson who tallied her fourth straight double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Seimone Augustus added 17 points and rookie Maya Moore scored 14. The Lynx broke an eight-game losing streak in Seattle. Swin Cash led the Storm with 18 points and seven rebounds.
