2012 Final Four: Postgame Q&A with Amber Orrange, Joslyn Tinkle, Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike

Nneka Ogwumike

You’re incredibly poised for having just lost your last college game. How are you able to do that?

It’s reality. The season had to have ended either today or Tuesday, whether it was on a low or a high. But you can talk about what could have, should have, would have happened, but for me, my perspective on situations like this is that I went down with the best squad in the nation. I love them so much. My coaches – I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them. I’m just happy about my experience, and I don’t want to dwell on something like this. Even though it’s hard to deal with, obviously, because the season’s over and it didn’t end how I wanted it to.

What does Chiney bring to the team?

She brings that energy. She brings that fight. And I know it was hard for her to (foul out), and we didn’t think she was going to foul out, but it happened. At that point I knew we would have to pick up the slack, and we did a good job of….fighting to the end.

What has changed about your game from the time you were a freshman?

I can talk about my skill set and my court smarts, but I think that the best thing about my game that’s improved is my leadership. I’ve kind of assumed the role. I take pride in getting people to understand that it’s special to be on a team where people are doing so well and you play for each other. And that’s probably where my game has grown the most.

Amber Orrange

You’ve had to assume much responsibility as a freshman. How have you changed from beginning to end of season?

I’ve learned a lot, especially from our upperclassmen and especially Nneka – she’s a great role model and a perfect example of how to act and how to work. I’m really honored I could play with her and be a part of this team.

Joslyn Tinkle

On the game

We really wanted this for each other, and to come to this tournament and come up short – it hurts.

Chiney Ogwumike

On Brittney Griner

I was put on Griner from tipoff…..I was so focused on trying to take her out of her element…..I fouled out for the first time this year, which was sad, but I was just excited to be able to play against her.
