Phoenix Mercury forward Penny Taylor to miss WNBA season and Olympics due to ACL injury

Phoenix Mercury forward and 10-year WNBA veteran Penny Taylor tore her left anterior cruciate ligament on March 29 while playing for Fenerbahce (Turkey) in the Euroleague Final 8. She is scheduled to undergo surgery in Melbourne, Australia and then begin rehabilitating.

“We are devastated by the news of Penny’s injury,” President and COO Amber Cox said. “We plan to do everything possible to aide in Penny’s rehabilitation and look forward to her full recovery and continuing her career with the Phoenix Mercury.”

The three-time All-Star will miss the upcoming WNBA season, and as a member of the Australian National Team, will be unable to compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Taylor has spent seven seasons in Phoenix. She ranks among the team’s career leaders in numerous statistical categories including second in scoring, rebounding and assists.
