The Washington Mystics signed free agent forward Iziane Castro Marques and waived guard Natasha Lacy.

A nine-year WNBA veteran and native of Brazil, Castro Marques first joined the league as a free agent with the Miami Sol. She sat out the first half of the WNBA season to play for her country’s national team in the 2012 Summer Olympics. However, Brazil’s basketball federation removed Castro Marques from the squad after she violated team rules during warm-up games in France. Brazil did not make it past the preliminary round of Olympic competition.

Castro Marques played most recently with the Atlanta Dream. She helped the team reach consecutive WNBA Finals. She has also played for the Phoenix Mercury and the Seattle Storm. Her career averages include 10.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Lacy joined the Mystics prior to the start of the 2012 season. She averaged 3.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 20 games.
