Iowa State dominates Kansas to head into the Big 12 tournament semifinals

DALLAS – Iowa State is in the Big 12 tournament semifinals for the first time since 2009 after defeating Kansas 77-62 Saturday evening. Led by 24 points from Chelsea Poppens and 23 points from Hallie Christofferson, the Cyclones dominated the Jayhawks for most of the game.

A 23-6 run fueled Iowa State’s 34-26 halftime lead after starting the game down 8-2. The Cyclones shot 50 percent in the first half.

Nikki Moody became the eighth player in conference history to tally 10 assists in a tournament game. She is now six assists shy of breaking the Iowa State record for single-season assists of 216.

Poppens also pulled down 14 rebounds. Anna Prins scored 14 points and added 8 rebounds.

Carolyn Davis led Kansas with 17 points plus 6 rebounds. Angel Goodrich finished with 15 points plus seven assists. Chelsea Gardner added 12 points.

Iowa State faces Oklahoma Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
