Top ranked Connecticut loses Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Morgan Tuck for forseeable future

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, after falling during Connecticut’s victory Monday night over No. 3 Stanford, suffered a nerve contusion of the right elbow, but escaped what appeared to be a more serious injury. An MRI revealed the injury and she will be re-evaluated next week. Until that time, there is no time frame for the junior guard/forward’s return.

The bigger surprise however is that sophomore forward Morgan Tuck, who replaced Mosqueda-Lewis against Stanford and scored 11 second-half points, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday.

Tuck, who had been wearing a large knee brace, was experiencing swelling in her right knee since the beginning of the season due to a cartilage injury. At the UConn Health Center Dr. Robert Arciero successfully stabilized the cartilage. Tuck is expected to return to game action in 4 to 6 weeks.

UConn is in the midst of a difficult stretch that began with Stanford, and now continues with road games against Maryland and Penn State, both ranked in the top 15 in the country. The Huskies began the season with nine scholarship players and two walk-ons, but the loss of the two forwards will strongly test the rest of the UConn players.
