UConn uses 25-4 start vs. Rutgers to cruise in American Athletic Conference semifinal, 83-57

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Before Rutgers knew what hit them, No. 1 Connecticut opened their semifinal in the American Athletic Conference women’s basketball championship with a 13-0 and 25-4 run, cruising to a 83-57 victory.

Five Huskies scored in double figures, led by Breanna Stewart with 22 points. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis hit six three-pointers on her way to 19 points. Backcourt duo Bria Hartley and Moriah Jefferson combined for 16 assists and three turnovers.

Rutgers came alive in the second half, basically playing the Huskies even. Briyona Canty led the Scarlet Knights with 16, conference freshman of the year Tyler Sciafe scored 12 and team leading scorer Kaahleah Copper added 12.

UConn takes on the winner of second semifinal between Louisville and South Florida tomorrow in the championship game.
