South Florida races to big win over Temple, 72-44, in American Athletic Conference quarterfinal

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – It was not the run out and hide that both Connecticut and Louisville did to their opponents, but South Florida methodically extended an early lead to blow out Temple, 72-44 in the final quarterfinal of the American Athletic Conference women’s basketball championships.

Jose Fernandez’s Bulls played strong defense, holding Temple under 25 percent shooting, while hitting their own shots. Inga Orekhova led South Florida with 22 points, while Courtney Williams scored 12 points while adding six rebounds and four assists.

Temple was led by Feyond Fitzgerald with 20 points, the only Owl in double figures, but on 5-for-20 shooting.

South Florida will play Louisville tomorrow around 3 p.m. ET, after UConn and Rutgers meet in the first semifinal.
