USA Today coaches poll for Jan. 6, 2015: Arizona St., Florida St., and Princeton enter ranks
While there were no changes in the top five of this week’s women’s basketball coaches poll, three schools broke the ranks of the top 25: Arizona State (13-1) at No. 20, Florida State (13-2) at No. 22 and undefeated Princeton (16-0) at No. 24.
Princeton is also the first Ivy League team to appear in the coaches poll. The Tigers first began receiving votes on Dec. 22. The following week the team earned 35 points before receiving 79 points in the latest edition. Also ranked at No. 22 in the Associated Press poll, the Tigers are the first Ivy team to appear in both national polls at the same time.
“We’re very honored to earn the respect of the coaches in our business,” said head coach Courtney Banghart. “We’re proud of our showing during the non-conference portion of our schedule and are excited for the start of Ivy League play.”
- Dropped out: No. 23 Washington (11-2), No. 24 DePaul (10-5), No. 25 Northwestern (12-2).
- Others receiving votes: Washington (11-2) 55; St. John‘s (12-2) 37; South Florida (12-3) 34; Northwestern (12-2) 33; DePaul (10-5) 28; Minnesota (14-1) 23; California (10-3) 22; George Washington (12-2) 15; Seton Hall (13-2) 13; James Madison (10-2) 12; Western Kentucky (12-2) 9.
