Duke incoming freshman Angela Salvadores named MVP of FIBA U18 European Championship

After she led Spain to the FIBA U18 European Championship on Sunday, Duke University incoming freshman Angela Salvadores was named the MVP of the tournament. Over eight games, the 5-10 guard averaged 20.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She closed the championship with a game-high 27 points in the title game against France. She hit 10-of-23 field goals, 7-of-7 free throws, four assists and one steal in 39 minutes of action.

Spain won the game, 76-60. Salvadores, who hails from Leon, Spain, notched her third career gold medal and sixth overall medal with Spanish national teams.

France opened the game with a 16-10 lead in the first quarter. Spain recovered to outscore France 25-17 in the second quarter to lead 35-27 at the half. The Spaniards did not trail for the rest of the game.

Salvadores was also a member of her country’s 2015 U19 team that won a bronze medal in the world championships. She was also the MVP of the 2014 U17 FIBA World Championship.
