Japan wins 2015 FIBA Asia Women’s Championship, returns to the Olympics for the first time since 2004
Japan defeated China 85-50 to win the 2015 FIBA Asia Women’s Championship. The victory gives Japan and automatic bid to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Seattle Storm center Ramu Tokashiki was named the tournament’s MVP and a member of the All-star team. She averaged 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
The other All-stars included:
- Asami Yoshida (Japan)
- Ting Shao (China)
- Mengran Sun (China)
- Danbi Kim (Korea)
Tokashiki was also the MVP of the 2013 tournament when Japan beat Korea in the final.
Japan returns to the Olympics for the first time since 2004. Korea beat Chinese Taipei 52-45 in the third place game and secured a place in next year’s FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
