Indiana Fever point guard Briann January undergoes surgery to repair a torn meniscus

Indiana Fever point guard Briann January underwent surgery this week to repair a torn meniscus in her right knee. The surgery was performed by Fever team doctor and orthopedic specialist Dr. Stephen Kollias of OrthoIndy. January sustained the injury during the first half of Game 5 of the WNBA Finals on Oct. 14, but finished the game despite the injury, scoring 13 points.

The seven-year veteran and a member of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Training Pool, January was a catalyst for the Fever throughout the WNBA Finals, scoring in double figures in five straight games while contributing 27 assists, third-most by any player in Finals history. January averaged 15.4 points per game during the Finals.

January led the WNBA in 3-point shooting during the regular season with a career-best 43.1 percentage.

A native of Spokane, Wash., and a product of Arizona State University, she signed a contract extension with Indiana in August, and will return for the 2016 WNBA season.
