WBCA High School Players of the Week – Week ending Dec. 6, 2015

The WBCA High School Players of the Week presented by MaxPreps for the week ending Sunday, Dec, 6, have been named, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today.

In its inaugural year, the WBCA High School Player of the Year is presented to a deserving student-athlete in each of nine geographic regions of the country who demonstrated outstanding play throughout the week of play. Head coaches submit nominations each week and the WBCA selects the individuals based on stats that were submitted.

The winners are:

Region 1
Evie Perez, a 5-foot-9 junior from Miss Porter’s High School (Farmington, Connecticut) helped guide her team to a 4-0 record on the week. Perez averaged 11.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. She recorded a season best 15 points in a 46-29 win against Chase Collegiate on Dec. 5.

Region 2
Liz Millea, from Cooperstown High School (Cooperstown, New York) propelled the Hawkeyes to a 3-0 record. The 5-foot-7 senior posted 20.3 points, 4.0 steals, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists on the week. During Cooperstown’s 62-44 win against Eldred on Dec. 2, Millea tallied 29 points, including going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

Region 3
Emily Maupin, a 6-foot-3 junior from Covenant High School (Charlottesville, Virginia), has tallied 22.7 points, 22.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.8 blocks and 2.3 steals through the first six games of the season. She has posted 20-plus rebounds in each of the six games for the Eagles. Covenant is 2-4.

Region 4
Dana Evans, from Gary West Side High School in Gary, Indiana, has navigated the Cougars to a 9-1 record on the year. The 5-foot-7 guard is averaging 35.3 points, 6.1 assists, 5.4 steals and 5.0 rebounds per game. In the Cougars’ 79-42 win against Hammond on Nov. 24 the junior collected her first double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 assists.

Region 5
Kaylie Rothdiener, a 5-foot-9 senior from Bolivar High School (Bolivar, Missouri), has averaged 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steals on the way to leading the Liberators to a 2-1 record. Rothdiener opened the season with a double-double in a 63-51 win against Lake Hamilton on Dec. 3, scoring 19 points, while grabbing 10 boards.

Region 6
Tontyana Sanders, from Connally High School in Waco, Texas, has averaged 24.5 points, 20.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 2.7 steals and 1.8 assists per game, while guiding the Cadets to a 16-1 record. The 5-foot-11 junior post player has connected on 63 percent of her shots from the field.

Region 7
Desirae Gonzalez, a 5-foot-10 senior from Kingman High School (Kingman, Arizona), has led the Bulldogs to a perfect 7-0 record to start the season. Through the first seven games, Gonzalez averaged 33.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.1 steals, 3.4 assists and 1.0 blocks. In the Bulldogs’ 72-28 victory against Parker High School, Gonzalez tallied a triple-double with 41 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Region 8
Sierra Campisano, from Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California, is averaging 26.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals, while the Falcons are 2-2 on the season. The 6-foot-3 senior captain registered 46 points and 13 rebounds in the Falcons’ 63-58 win against Canyon Springs on Dec. 2.

Region 9
Whitney Creech, a 5-foot-9 senior from Jenkins High School (Jenkins, Kentucky), has helped the Cavaliers to a 2-0 record, while averaging 52.0 points, 16.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals, 4.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. In the Cavaliers’ 81-51 win against Pike County Central, Creech finished with 57 points
