FIU fires head coach Marlin Chinn in wake of allegations by student-athlete

From FIU:

Florida International University’s Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia announced today that Head Women’s Basketball Coach Marlin Chinn has been terminated for cause effective immediately.  The decision comes after Mr. Chinn admitted to University officials that he knowingly violated NCAA bylaws regarding impermissible benefits provided to a student-athlete.

The University’s Title IX investigation into other serious allegations made against Mr. Chinn by a student-athlete will continue.

Tiara Malcolm will continue to serve as the Interim Head Coach and a national search for a permanent head coach will begin immediately.

Two weeks ago FIU team captain Detini Feagin alleged that Chinn sexually harassed her. FIU suspended Chinn, a first-year coach, after the allegations became public. According to the Miami Herald, the school does not have to pay him the remaining four years of his contract.
