Florida lands transfer from Utah State, MWC leading scorer Funda Nakkasoglu

Funda Nakkasoglu, a native of Australia and two-year standout at Utah State University is transferring to Florida. Per NCAA rules, Nakkasoglu will have to sit out the 2016-17 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2017-18.

Nakkasoglu led the Mountain West Conference in scoring this past season at 20.81 points per game, No. 21 nationwide. She was third in the MWC in assists (4.45 apg). The 5-7 guard also earned First Team All-Mountain West Conference honors and was the named the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2014-15. In two years at USU she accumulated 1,149 points.

Nakkasoglu is the fourth newcomer for the Gators. She joins Sydney Morang, Sydney Searcy and Delicia Washington, each of whom signed a National Letter of Intent during the fall.
