Indiana Fever trades Layshia Clarendon to the Atlanta Dream for 2017 2nd round draft pick

The Indiana Fever traded fourth-year point guard Layshia Clarendon to the Atlanta Dream for the rights to the second round selection in the 2017 WNBA Draft it received from the New York Liberty on May 2 in exchange for guard Shoni Schimmel. Clarendon, a graduate of California, joins former college teammate, 6-2 forward Reshanda Gray, on the Dream.

Clarendon completed three seasons with the Fever, including a trip to the 2015 WNBA Finals. She averaged 6.7 points and 2.0 assists per game for Indiana last season. She was originally selected by the Fever with the No. 9 selection in the 2013 WNBA Draft.

“I want to thank Layshia for her years of service with the Indiana Fever,” said Fever president and general manager Kelly Krauskopf. “We wish her luck in her career and success in Atlanta.”

“Layshia Clarendon is a proven player in this league and having played with Indiana and she has experience competing in playoff basketball,” Atlanta head coach Michael Cooper said.  “I think she is a good pick up for us.  She is a defensive-minded player that I followed since her college days and have seen her maturation as she has progressed through the WNBA.  For us this was a no-brainer.  She adds depth to our team and is a big guard that can take on some of the stronger guards in the league without help.”
