Hoopfeed Poll for 1/17: UConn reigns, Notre Dame falls, Texas A&M re-enters

While the Connecticut Huskies continue their reign at the top of the Hoopfeed poll during a record-breaking week for the program, a few other elite teams suffered setbacks in the rankings.

The Huskies broke their own NCAA record for consecutive victories with an 88-48 rout of Southern Methodist on Saturday in Dallas. With a win at Tulsa on Tues. Jan. 17, UConn’s streak stands at 92.

After falling to Tennessee on Monday, Notre Dame fell two spots to land at No. 8 in this week’s poll. Ohio State and Virginia Tech both dropped four spots. OSU suffered a defeat at Michigan State last Tues., Jan. 10 while Virginia Tech experienced its first loss of the season at Miami on Wed., Jan. 11.

South Florida also fell four spots. The Bulls lost to top-ranked UConn 102-37 in Hartford last week.

California fell out of the poll after losing at Utah on Sunday, 63-57. The Bears have lost three out of four of their last games.

The biggest rise in the poll was a five-place jump from Texas. The Longhorns climbed back up to land at No. 12. Texas began last week with a win over Oklahoma State followed by a victory at West Virginia.

Texas A&M re-entered the poll at No. 25 after notching wins over Arkansas and Florida last week.

Other teams that received votes: Syracuse, Green Bay, Tennessee, California, Harvard and Utah.
