As the regular season fades away, top-ranked Connecticut continues to reign atop the Hoopfeed weekly poll. The Huskies ended their regular season with a 96-68 rout of South Florida Monday night to extend their NCAA record winning streak to 104 games.

Baylor improved in the rankings after a week of wins over Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. The Bears clinched their seventh-straight regular season Big 12 title with a home victory over Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in Waco.

Notre Dame held its No. 3 position with wins against Boston College and Florida State last week.

Maryland and South Carolina round out the remaining top five. Oregon State was close behind in the voting landing at No. 6. The Beavers finished their regular season schedule with home wins over Stanford and California. Head coach Scott Rueck earned the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for leading his team to a 27-3 regular season record and first place in the conference standings.

After losing two straight home games, first against Baylor then versus Iowa State, Texas fell six places in the poll from No. 7 to land at No. 13.

Ohio State moved up two places to end up at No. 8. The Buckeyes took down Maryland and Rutgers last week.

Other poll notes:

  • Mississippi State fell five spots to No.7 after back-to-back losses to Kentucky and Tennessee.
  • Stanford fell three places to No.9 after splitting a road trip north across the state line. The Cardinal defeated Oregon Friday night but fell to Oregon State two days later.
  • Oklahoma had a week of mixed results leading to a fall of three places to No. 19. The Sooners started the week with a loss at Kansas State but recovered with a win at TCU. However, the loss at Baylor on Monday night did not help their placement in the poll.
  • Texas A&M dropped out of the rankings. The Aggies ended the regular season on a skid with four straight losses including defeats last week at the hands of South Carolina and unranked Mississippi.
  • Other teams that received votes: Creighton (22-6), Tennessee (19-10), Colorado State (22-6).
