San Antonio Stars sign veteran Erika de Souza

The San Antonio Stars today signed three-time WNBA All-Star Erika de Souza. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Erika gives us size and experience in the post,” said Stars General Manager Ruth Riley. “She is a proven All-Star in our league and we are incredibly excited to have her join us in San Antonio.”

The 11-year WNBA veteran started her professional career in the United States in 2002 when she won a championship with the Los Angeles Sparks. De Souza played the next five seasons overseas before returning to the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun in 2007. Throughout 302 career-games, de Souza has averaged 9.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.

The Atlanta Dream acquired de Souza during the 2008 Expansion Draft. During her eight seasons with the Dream, she was voted to the WNBA All-Star Game in 2009, 2013 and 2014. The Rio De Janeiro native has also competed in three Olympic Games (2004, 2012, 2016) as a member of the Brazilian National Team.
