STANFORD – After her team’s 91-54 rout of Washington on Friday, Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer is just one win away from reaching 900 victories at the Pac-12 power. Three years ago, the Hall of Fame coach surpassed the career 1,000-win mark, one of only six coaches, female or male, to accomplish that feat.

With a deep and talented roster led by senior forward Alanna Smith, sophomore guard Kiana Williams and junior guard DiJonai Carrington it will be no surprise if VanDerveer reaches the program 900-win mark on Sunday when the Cardinal hosts Washington State. She would be the fifth NCAA Division I coach with that many at a single school (Pat Summitt, Geno Auriemma, Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim).

At 15-1 and 5-0 in Pac-12 play, Stanford is off to its best start in five seasons and entered conference play with a 10-1 record, the first time in five years it suffered just one non-conference defeat. Overall, Stanford is riding a 19-game winning streak at home.

Washington State (7-10, 2-4) is on the heels of a 77-63 loss at California on Friday. The Cougars overcame a double-digit deficit to get within seven points with just six minutes left but Cal went on an 18-2 run to close out the game.

The Cougars are in search of the program’s first win over Stanford. The Cardinal is 63-0 all-time against Washington State and 31-0 against the Cougars at home.
