Friday’s nights contest between the Washington Mystics (9-3) and the Las Vegas Aces (8-5) at Mandalay Bay Events Center received a jolt during halftime when a 7.1 earthquake rattled the area. The WNBA released the following statement about the game:

“The WNBA has announced that the completion of tonight’s game in Las Vegas has been postponed for precautionary reasons due to the earthquake. Information regarding the conclusion of tonight’s game will be released by the WNBA when it becomes available.”

At the half, the Mystics led the Aces 51-36 with Washington’s LaToya Sanders leading all scorers with 14 points. Aces center Liz Cambage was the only other player in double figures with 12 points.

Washington travels to Los Angeles for a Sunday game against the Sparks. Las Vegas also heads on the road for a game at New York on the same day.

Due to the magnitude of the earthquake, reported as occurring at 8:19 p.m Pacific Daylight Time by the U.S. Geological Survey, other sporting events in the city were also canceled including NBA Summer League Games at the Thomas & Mack Center and at Cox Pavilion. The scoreboard at the Thomas & Mack Center game swayed during the tremor.

The center of the earthquake was about 11 miles from Ridgecrest, California where a 6.6 earthquake hit Thursday.
