Baylor senior Melissa Jones to sit out Senior Night due to injury

Video: Kim Mulkey talks about Melissa Jones’ head injury

Baylor senior guard Melissa Jones will not play tomorrow night due to an injury suffered during the team’s last game.

“Melissa had a blow to her head just above the right eye the last couple of minutes of the game,” said Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey. “She dove at center court, you guys saw that, and had a mild concussion and lost vision in the right eye.”

The injury occurred in Baylor’s win at Oklahoma on Sunday night. Fellow senior Whitney Zachariason will start in her place. Jones’ injury has caused swelling around the optic nerve and at the present time, she cannot see out of her right eye according to Baylor. MRI and MRA tests show no damage to the eye, optic nerve or brain and her pupils are equal and reactive to light.

Baylor (26-2, 13-1) hosts Missouri (12-16, 4-10) Wednesday night in their last regular season home game. The Lady Bears seek to clinch a Big 12 Championship in the matchup. The Tigers enter the game on a two-game losing streak after dropping games at Nebraska (76-34) and Colorado (63-59) in Columbia. A victory Wednesday would ensure Baylor at least a tie for the conference title. The Lady Bears have a one-game lead on Texas A&M.
