Lynx and Fever begin prep for WNBA Finals game 2

WNBA Finals Game 2: Indiana at Minnesota
Wed., Oct. 17, 8 pm ET, ESPN

After last night’s game one of the WNBA Finals, members of the Fever and the Lynx addressed what they felt was necessary to achieve success in game two of the best-of-five series.

Tamika Catchings, Indiana Fever forward

On preparation for the next game
First thing is rest, rest in between these games. We know there’s going to be adjustments from both sides. I think for us, we just have to, we have to pick it up on defense and we have to do a better job defensively and we have to do a better job on the boards.

On rebounding as the key
And I mean, coming from where I’ve come from, especially under Pat, that’s the one thing she preaches is defense and rebounds are what win championships. So we didn’t do a good job on the boards; we didn’t win the boards tonight. We know we can do a better job. Larkins had [15] boards tonight, but I don’t know what everybody else had. So we all need to get 16 the next game; how about that?

Cheryl Reeve, Lynx head coach

On getting ready for the next game
Well, you know, we are going to look at some video, so we’ll take the day tomorrow. Get in there and just look at what we’ve got to do. I’m sure the players will tell you, kind of disappointed to how we responded to how hard the game was. And we’ll watch video and see if we can’t put ourselves in better position, and then we practice and then we’ll hoop it up again for Game 2.

Lindsay Whalen, Minnesota Lynx guard

On preparation for Wednesday
Well we know it’s a long series and I think we need to go and watch some video and figure out what we need to do to be more effective and we know we need to just put ourselves in some good situations and execute and cut down on some of the mental errors and finish some plays.

On adjusting for Wednesday’s game
Now it’s up to us to make some corrections and fix some things and come out ready to go on Wednesday night. It’s just, you know, they played a really good game, and you know, we left maybe a couple shots out there and things like that. So like I said, we’ll make some corrections and get ready for Wednesday.
