Sport Tours LogoNotre Dame, the reigning national champion, tops the first Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed Poll of the 2018-19 season. UConn comes in at No. 2 with one first place vote.

The top-ranked Irish overcame a slow start to defeat Penn 75-55 Monday night. The Huskies took down Ohio State 85-53 to start their season on Sunday. No. 3 Oregon edged No. 18 Syracuse, 75-73, on Saturday. Baylor survived a tough test against No. 22 Arizona State Sunday afternoon with a 65-59 victory for the third win of the season for the Lady Bears.

Louisville comes in at No. 5 with two wins, the first over Western Kentucky (102-80) and the second against Chattanooga (75-49). The second victory gave head coach Jeff Walz his 300th career win.

Mississippi State, Stanford, Oregon State, Maryland and South Carolina round out the top ten.

Syracuse and Arizona State are the only ranked teams that experienced defeat during opening week.

Other teams that received votes in the poll: Northwestern, Minnesota, Duke, UCLA, Gonzaga and TCU.

Notre Dame

  • Lowest foul rate in the country: 11.1%
  • Fifth in assists per game with 24.0
  •  62.9% total rebounding rate is 12th in the nation

UConn

  • Eighth in turnovers per game with 10.0
  • Seventh in assist to turnover ratio with 1.90
  • 92.2 percentile in opponent 2-point percentage: 29.7%

Oregon

  • First in assisted shot rate: 87.0% (!!!)
  • Top 20 in foul rate (15.3%) and Assist to turnover ratio (1.67)

Baylor

  • One of seven team with three wins
  • First in FG%: 60.1%
  • Fifth in total rebound rate (67.1%)
  • First in assists per game (27.0)

Louisville

  • Top 10 in FG% (55.5%), 2-point FG% (62.7%, and PPSA (1.35)
  • Detractor – 35.9% foul rate is 325/335 eligible teams

Mississippi State

  • Second in blocks per game: 9.5
  • 12th in opponent 2-point %: 26.1%
    • But… 287/335 in opp 3-point %:40.9%

Stanford

  • Fourth in total rebounding rate: 68.7%
  • Ninth in block rate: 19.7%
  • Sixth in opponent 2-point %: 24.2%

Tennessee

  • First in opponent turnovers per game: 39.0

Iowa

  • Sixth best 3-point%: 53.8%
  • 10th for PPSA: 1.28
  • 13th in total rebounding rate: 62.2%

Georgia

  • Sixth for blocks per game: 8.5
  • Fourth in opponent PPSA 0.57

DePaul

  • Fourth in three-point rate: 55.7% of shots are three pointers
  • Top 30 in assisted shot rate (72.7%), steals per game (13.0) and steal rate (18.1%)

Missouri

  • Fourth in defensive rebounding rate: 86.7%
  • First in opponent assists per game: 3.0 (just one game)

North Carolina State

  • Haven’t allowed a block in first two games (tied with 17 other teams)

Syracuse

  • 21st in turnover rate: 13.0%

Marquette

  • Held South Dakota State to just 52 points
  • Eighth in nation in PPSA: 1.28

Texas A&M

  • Eighth in blocks per game: 7.5
  • 15th in opponent steals per game: 4.0

South Florida

  • 17th in opponent FG%: 26.8%
  • 18th in total rebounding rate: 61.4%

Arizona State

  • Third in assisted shot rate: 83.7%

California

  • Senior center Kristine Anigwe’s 22 rebounds vs. Penn State Sunday are tied for the most by any Division I player in a game so far this season.

  • 11th in effective FG%: 61.8%
  • 11th in assists per game: 22.3

Minnesota

  • Sixth in assist to turnover ratio: 2.00
  • 10th in blocks per game: 7.0
