San Antonio Silver Stars add three to their training camp roster

The San Antonio Silver Stars signed guards Charel Allen and Dee Davis and forward Krystal Vaughn to training camp contracts Tuesday.

“We are pleased to have such a competitive camp shaping up,” said General Manager Dan Hughes in a press release. “We have admired Krystal, Charel and Dee as we have competed against them in the past and we look forward to getting to know them as part of the Silver Stars in 2010.”

From the release:

  • Allen originally was selected in the third round (43rd overall) of the 2008 WNBA Draft by the now-defunct Sacramento Monarchs and played in six games, averaging 2.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. • Davis, a second round (14th overall) pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft, averaged 2.0 points in three games played for the Houston Comets in 2007. The Vanderbilt alumna’s best game came against the Indiana Fever on June 6, as she tallied six points on 2-of-2 made three-point field goal attempts in 14 minutes played. Collegiately, Davis was named All-SEC First Team her senior and junior seasons, Associated Press All-SEC Second Team her junior and sophomore seasons and Coaches All-SEC Second Team her sophomore season.
  • Vaughn, a third round pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, played in 15 games for the Washington Mystics and recorded 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 78 minutes played. An alumna of Virginia Commonwealth, Vaughn was the first from her school to be selected in the WNBA Draft. She finished her collegiate career with 1,298 points, a tally that ranked her sixth all-time, in addition to becoming the 16th player in VCU history to score 1,000 career points. Additionally, her 532 points as a senior was the fourth-best single-season tally in program history. For her efforts, she was named first team All-CAA and first team All-Virginia by the Richmond-Times Dispatch.

During the WNBA Draft last week, the Silver Stars picked former Stanford center Jayne Appel in the first round at No. 5. The team followed up with selecting forward Alysha Clark from Middle Tennessee State in the second round (17th overall) and Alexis Rack from Mississippi State in the third round (29th overall).
