Maria Cornelius speaks to Anosike about her injury and the suspension:

“I think everyone has heard just part of the story, and thinks, ‘She was suspended because she refused to get on the road trip,’ ” said Anosike, who has played in the WNBA for three seasons. “But that’s not the whole truth. The whole truth is that right after the San Antonio game, which was Sunday night, they gave me the results of the MRI that I took Saturday. The doctor said I had torn my lateral meniscus. I have been dealing with this injury for the past two months.

The Minnesota Lynx suspended center Nicky Anosike yesterday. Today the team signed 6-4 center Jessica Adair to a contract.

The team announced that it suspended Anosike for declining to travel on a three-game road trip. However, former Lynx player Tasha Humphrey indicated on Twitter that the team handed down the suspension right after Anosike found out she had a torn meniscus. Another tweet from Humphrey:

The team’s travels began yesterday. The Lynx lost to the Seattle Storm 68-64 Tuesday night. According to the Lynx game notes for the Seattle matchup, the reason Anosike was not with the team was “due to soreness in her left knee.”

In 31 games this season, Anosike averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29.9 minutes per game.

Adair spent the majority of training camp with Minnesota, playing in one preseason game where she totaled 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 26 minutes against Chicago. She joined the team today in Los Angeles will wear #1 for the Lynx.
