The Indiana Fever (17-10) had a rocky start to the season with three straight losses before they earned their first win under Stephanie White, the youngest head coach in the league.

However, in her first year at the helm of the franchise, White has righted the ship, and before last night’s home loss to Los Angeles, led her team to a string of six straight wins. Even in the loss, veteran forward Tamika Catchings, who will retire after this season, became the first player in WNBA history to record 1,000 career steals. She also earned her fifth double-double of the summer and the 95th of her WNBA career.

Before the All-Star break, the team was 8-8. However, since then, the Fever has amassed a 9-2 record and sits just 1.5 games behind East leader New York (18-8). Head-to-head against the Liberty, the Fever holds the edge so far this season, 3-1. The two teams meet again in Indianapolis on Sept. 13 for the Fever’s final regular season contest (5 p.m. ET, WNDY/NBA TV).

Indiana looks to recover from the loss to Los Angeles when they host Atlanta on Friday, Aug. 28 (7 p.m. ET, LiveAccess).

White, a strong contender for Coach of the Year, joins the podcast this week to discuss the Fever’s progress this season, the play of veteran legend Tamika Catchings, the improvement of guard Shenise Johnson, honoring former coach Lin Dunn and more.
