2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works teams announced

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced student-athletes named to the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works teams. In its fourth year, the award honors athletes that have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of others through giving back to their communities.

The two teams are comprised of 10 student-athletes; five from NCAA Division I and five from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. Sports information directors and coaches at colleges and universities around the country submitted nominations narrowed down to the final team rosters by a voting panel led by 10-time WNBA All-Star and former Tennessee player Tamika Catchings.

Quotes

George Mason head coach Nyla Milleson

“Incredible honor for Taylor, our program and our university to be one of five Division I women athletes to get this award. It is definitely indicative of her service to the community and her leadership to our program and our university. I’ve said forever that Tay Brown is a great basketball player but she is an even better person. She has been a leader all of her life. I think this is a great way to culminate her career.”

Utah head coach Lynne Roberts

“We are all extremely proud of Dani for being named to the Allstate WBCA Good Works team. This is one of the most prestigious annual awards given out for our sport. To be one of only five Division I student-athletes recognized is an unbelievable honor for Dani and our program. We want high-character student-athletes here who are willing to get involved and make a difference in the community. Dani is a prime example of that commitment and using her platform as an athlete to make a positive difference in the lives of others. We are fortunate to have someone like Dani represent the University of Utah in such a positive way on this national stage.”

Utah senior guard Danielle Rodriguez

“This award means the world to me. I already get the most out of going out and volunteering my time. To be recognized for all the countless hours I’ve spent helping others almost leaves me speechless and adds to the satisfaction of what I get to do.”

Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph

“We are very proud of Katarina for being named to the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. It is a tremendous honor for her and our program.”
