WNBA: Live Access gets a new name, price increase and added features

The WNBA’s streaming service that broadcasts most of the league’s games has a new name and price. Today fans received the following notice from the WNBA:

LeaguePass

Previously called Live Access, the service launched in 2009 for free. The league started charging for it in 2012 at a rate of $4.99. In 2013 the WNBA raised the price to $14.99. The service has sometimes been unreliable for fans with technical issues marring some broadcasts.

The name change comes with a $2 increase and native support for Apple TV and Chromecast. You can also purchase a single game pass for $1.99. Fans who paid for the service last summer will receive an email with a discount code to enter at checkout.

Features of League Pass include:

  • Live and archived games all season long
  • Multiple game viewing and DVR functionality
  • Box score and play-by-play overlays
  • Availability to watch from within the WNBA’s iOS and Android apps

As with previous seasons, fans can sign up for a free trial for the beginning of the regular season.

ESPN is set to broadcast 14 games and several teams have reached agreements with local outlets to air games in home markets.
