SWAC announces new basketball tournament structure
The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced a new structure for its basketball tournament at the conclusion of the league’s spring meetings in Birmingham this week. The women’s and men’s competition will continue to be held in Houston for the next three years at the Toyota Center.
The new structure for the event features higher seeded teams hosting the first round of the tournament. Teams will have a travel and practice day before the semifinals.

Tuesday, March 7
- #8 seed travels #1 seed
- #7 seed travels to #2 seed
- #6 seed travels to #3 seed
- #5 seed travels to #4 seed
Wednesday, March 8 – TRAVEL DAY
Thursday, March 9 – PRACTICE DAY
Friday, March 10 – Semi-Final
4 games (2 men, 2 women)
Saturday, March 11 – Championship Finals
2 games (1 men, 1 women).
