California’s 2016-17 non-conference schedule features seven 2016 postseason participants including local competition. After an exhibition contest against Westmont on Sunday, Nov. 6, the Bears open the regular season on Nov. 11 at Saint Mary’s in Moraga. The Gaels bested Cal last season in the first game of the annual Cal Classic, 64-63.

The home debut for the Bears takes place No. 14 against Santa Clara to begin a five-game homestand  that also includes UC Riverside, CSU Bakersfield and the Cal Classic tournament.

The Bears head to Nebraska for a Dec. 4 contest. Last season the two teams went into overtime at Haas Pavilion with the Bears coming out on top, 87-80.

During the Thanksgiving holiday for the annual Cal Classic the Bears host a field that includes two NCAA Tournament teams, San Francisco and Duquesne, plus Western Carolina. In mid-December, Cal plays in the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic opening against Southern Mississippi followed by a contest vs. Oklahoma. On the third day of the tournament Cal faces Arkansas State.

“We are very much looking forward to this year’s non-conference slate,” said head coach Lindsay Gottlieb about the non-conference matchups. “The schedule we have put together will allow our fans to see us take shape as a team, prepare us for the ultra-competitive Pac-12 and allow our players to travel and face some terrific teams in great environments.”
