Skylar Diggins-Smith announced via Instagram that she is Puma’s newest women’s ambassador. Previously, the Dallas Wings guard was a Nike athlete. She signed with Nike in 2013 the year she became a pro and a client of Jay Z’s Roc Nation sports agency. Her first campaign for Nike was for the classic Air Force 1 sneaker. She also promoted a training club app, a sports bra and a special edition Nike Zoom HyperRev that honored her mother.

With Puma, Diggins-Smith joins other famous personalities who have signed with the company including entertainer Rihanna. Puma, however, is far behind Nike in the U.S. sneaker market. Nike, the Jordan Brand (owned by Nike) and Adidas lead the U.S. athletic footwear market. As of May 2017, Nike’s share of the market was 34.7 percent, Jordan Brand 11.8 percent and Adidas 11.3 percent according to retail researcher NPD Group.
