WBCA cancels annual convention due to coronavirus concerns

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released the following information regarding the cancellation of its annual conference that takes place during the Final Four. The organization plans to do “everything possible to ensure a 100-percent refund” to members registered for the event.

Due to the health and safety of our members, student-athletes, volunteers, staff and partners and with the data and information provided about COVID-19, the decision was made to cancel the 2020 WBCA Convention.

The organization added a FAQ for members:

Q.  How did you make the decision to cancel?
A: The WBCA Board of Directors and staff have been monitoring the situation very closely for quite some time. We have had calls daily with stakeholders, coaches, university leaders, and medical and health officials. Due to the health and safety of our members, student-athletes, volunteers, staff and partners and with the data and information provided about COVID-19, the decision was made to cancel.

Q:  Will I receive a refund?
A: We appreciate your patience as we work through the logistics of this decision including the financial ramifications for the association and you. We are doing everything possible to ensure a 100-percent refund.

Q:  How will this impact the WBCA financially?
A:  We are in the very early stages of determining the financial and legal ramifications to this decision. It will be significant; however, the health and safety of our members will always take priority over financial challenges.

Q:  The programming looked really good…is there a way to still receive any of the educational materials?
A:  Over the coming weeks, we will explore ways to deliver some of the originally planned convention programming to our members through a digital platform. Stay tuned.

Q:  Is there anything we can do to help the WBCA?
A:  We appreciate your patience. While we will continue to grow the list of ways to help, please consider the following:

  • If you were scheduled to present, please consider presenting at the 2021 WBCA Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Celebrate award winners on social media and congratulate them on their well-deserved recognitions (@WBCA1981).
  • Renew your entire staff’s membership in the fall.
  • Donate to the WBCA Benevolent Fund!
