No. 9 Miami earns double OT victory vs. No. 11 Rutgers, No. 22 Delaware has no trouble with Yale, unbeaten Top 25

No. 9 Miami 92, No. 11 Rutgers 81
With the Miami heat’s Juwan Howard in the audience, No. 9 Miami (7-1) protected its top 10 ranking with a 92-81 double overtime victory No. 11 Rutgers (8-1) Monday night in Coral Gables. Riquna Willams led her team with a career-high 36 points to overcome the Scarlet Knights’ tenacious defense. Shenise Johnson added 25 plus 12 rebounds to give Rutgers its first loss of the season. The 92 points scored by the Hurricanes was the most points given up in a game by Rutgers since the 2002-03 season, when they lost to then-No. 9 Texas Tech 94-81.

The double overtime game against Rutgers was also the first time the Hurricanes have played in a second extra period since February of the 2005-06 season. The Hurricanes went to two overtimes in back-to-back games in February of 2006 against then-No. 1 Duke and Georgia Tech.

No. 22 Delaware 77, Yale 45


No. 22 Delaware had no trouble keeping Yale (4-3) at bay. The nation’s leading scorer, Elena Delle Donne, gave the Blue Hens 28 points and seven rebounds in the 77-45 victory. The Blue Hens lead by 22 points at halftime. Their 7-0 record is the best start in the program’s history.
